Thanks for the great support. We are very happy to finally have your metrology system in-house. Already we are seeing returns on our investment. We used the tool this weekend to understand excessive warpage and resultant device damage occurring during mold preheating of our strip assemblies. The information from the Akrometrix helped us to identify a short term containment solution and keep our production lines running. Our next goal will be to characterize our designs and processes even more so we can anticipate problems and head them off before they occur in the factory.

Cisco Systems
I know Cisco & Solectron have definitely benefited by the PCBs suppliers ensuring they deliver product that meet the flatness spec. As of December 2005 we have placed 12,088 HBGA with 59 required reworked due to process defects for a 0.49% failure rate. It is quite a difference from the 20%- 30% defect rate prior to the flatness spec.

Solectron Malaysia
Solectron had 2 suppliers, one US based and one from Asia. The material cost for one was 25% cheaper than the other. One of the suppliers always had about 3.8% fallout and one BGA cost Solectron USD 300. The second supplier had less than 1% fallout. They tested with the Akrometrix TherMoire Platform and found out even during room temp they had coplanarity of 9.7mils while the other supplier had coplanarity of 3.4mils only. Received but suspended PCB material from the supplier were returned recovering over 200,000.00 USD.
